Abstract: This paper introduces the main causes of lightning strike on 10 kV distribution lines. The common lightning protection measures such as insulated conductor, lightning insulator, installation of line lightning arrester and rational application of automatic reclosing are introduced in detail. The possible lightning strike types of 10 kV distribution lines and the lightning protection measures adopted today are discussed. According to the geomorphic features of Haining, the special grounding grid shall be reconstructed. The optimization scheme of lightning protection for distribution lines is discussed.
